Destination News

Below you will find information about how the status of your destination may impact your travel plans. Tripmasters recommends using the Sherpa website and local government sites or tourism boards to stay current on all news that may impact travel in your chosen destination.

1. What happens if my destination goes into lockdown?

a) Before you travel: If your destination institutes a lockdown before you travel making it impossible for you to travel, you have limited options.
--Because COVID-19 has been declared a pandemic by the WHO, it is considered a foreseeable event. This means even travel insurance will not cover cancellations due to lockdowns.
--Tripmasters will work on your behalf with our vendors to try to recoup future credit vouchers, but we cannot guarantee our vendors will issue any credits. That is why we always recommend booking Refundable rates whenever possible.
--We strongly suggest using the Sherpa website to track the current conditions in any destination you plan to visit.

b) Once you are at destination: If the destination goes into lockdown while you are there, we can help you.
--No doubt this is a scary thought, but Tripmasters has a dedicated Crisis Call Team to assist travelers. We will act quickly to re-book your return flight, though because COVID-19 is a foreseeable event, this will likely incur additional change fees or fare differences. We will do our best to minimize any additional fees.
--Tripmasters recommends using the Sherpa website to track the current conditions in any destination you plan to visit, and if conditions deteriorate prior to your departure please contact us for options to postpone your trip.

2. Booking future travel for a currently closed destination: If you plan a trip to a country that is currently accepting bookings for potential future travel and when your travel date arrives the destination is still closed, there is little which can be done.

a) As a reminder, COVID-19 is considered a foreseeable event, therefore if you book travel to a country that is currently closed and the destination remains closed, insurance will not cover any cancellations. It is likely the service providers will deny refund requests, but we will work with them to try to minimize losses.
b) Tripmasters recommends booking as many Refundable services as possible to mitigate financial losses. We may be able to help secure future travel credits in these instances, but we cannot guarantee that.
c) We suggest using the Sherpa website to monitor the current conditions in any destination you plan to visit.

We cannot stress enough the importance of remaining vigilant and monitoring your chosen destination(s) for updates, restrictions, and requirements. It will make all the difference in your plans! Tripmasters wants you to be prepared, feel comfortable, and enjoy your trip!
